The Importance of Dogging Courses in Australia: How to Get Your Dogman Ticket

In Australia’s construction, mining, and industrial sectors, safety and technical competence are essential for any worker handling heavy loads and lifting operations. One of the key qualifications in this field is the Dogman Ticket — an official licence that certifies your ability to perform dogging tasks safely and effectively.

Why a Dogging Course Is Essential

A professional dogging course provides the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to safely sling loads, select lifting equipment, and guide crane operators during lifting operations.
Under Australian law, anyone performing dogging work must hold a valid dogging licence. This licence demonstrates that the individual has been properly trained to assess risks, choose the correct gear, and communicate clearly to ensure safe load movements.

How to Obtain a Dogman Ticket

To obtain your dogman ticket, you must complete an accredited dogging course delivered by a registered training organisation. During the course, participants learn essential topics such as load calculation, slinging techniques, crane communication, and hazard management.
After successfully completing both theoretical and practical assessments, participants are issued a High Risk Work Licence endorsed for dogging.

One of the leading providers of this training is Safety Australia Training, offering nationally recognised courses designed to help participants gain their dogging licence with confidence.

From Dogging to Rigging – Expanding Your Career

Many professionals who start with dogging training eventually move into rigging, which involves more advanced lifting and structural setup tasks.
A rigging course teaches you how to safely erect and dismantle structures, install hoists, cranes, and other mechanical equipment, and perform complex lifting operations.
By combining both skills, you can significantly expand your job opportunities and take on higher-level industrial roles.

For those who want to master both skill sets, enrolling in the rigging and dogging course is an excellent choice. This combined training program provides comprehensive instruction and practical experience to prepare you for a successful and safe career in Australia’s construction and heavy industries.
