5 Minute Guide to Google Ads

  • Written by News Co

Did you know that Google has almost 93% of the global search engine market share as of late 2019? Not only that, but its display network reaches 90% of Internet users through 2 million websites.

If you aren't currently taking advantage of Google Ads, then you should definitely consider it. Otherwise, you might be missing out on a large part of your target audience.

Here is a quick guide to Google Ads for your benefit.

What Is Google Ads?

Google Ads is a type of digital marketing called PPC, which stands for "pay-per-click."

How it works is Google Ads uses the ad copy based on the keywords that you are targeting. You give Google Ads your maximum bid, in the auction, for putting that ad in front of users.

If you win, then your ad will be displayed instead of your competitors' when someone searches for your targeted keyword. Do note that you have to give Google quality ad copy to be considered. Your ads can appear on the top of search engine results pages (SERPs) for both mobile and desktop results.

At this point, you only have to pay if someone clicks on your ad; hence the name "pay-per-click."

Quick guide to Google Ads

While you will have to spend more money when compared to organic digital marketing, it's well worth it. This is because Google Ads give you an artificial push to the top of SERPs, which make take much longer with organic traffic. If you're looking to grow your business quickly, then you probably can't afford to wait for organic growth.

What does Google Ads do for you?

  1. It gives you complete control over your marketing spend. You can set a daily budget you can afford, giving you complete control over your spend.
  2. You'll know exactly how much you're spending per click. Not just that, but you can cap the spending so you never go over your budget.
  3. You're able to stop and start the campaign whenever you want. So if you want to test out different marketing approaches, you can see the results (or lack thereof) quickly.
  4. Quality score matters. A quality score is made up of, your ad campaigns landing page, expected click-through-rate and Ad relevance. By improving your quality score, you can rank higher without having to bid higher.
  5. You can make sure that your ads are only showing in the areas that you service.

Try Google Ads Out

As you can see, Google Ads is a fantastic way to generate leads quickly. It can be a great addition to your organic marketing and even help those efforts along.

Paula Glynn of Pixelstorm says “When you consider that you have total control over marketing spend for Google Ads, it's well worth a try to boost your business. If it's not getting the results you want, you can always turn it off, tweak, and test again. And if you really feel like it's not the type of digital marketing for you, then it's also easy to stop all campaigns and put your efforts elsewhere.”
