How To Reduce Anxiety By Eliminating Work Issues

Stress is not good for your health although it is a fact of life. When you are stressed your body produces cortisol. This reduces the production of other hormones and prepares your body for flight or fight. Unfortunately, continuous high levels of stress lead to an increase in blood pressure, reduced cognitive performance, and even memory issues.

In short, you need to reduce stress in the workplace or you will become one of the over 7,000 Australians compensated for work-related mental health conditions.

Genuine Stress

There are times when stress is the right response. For instance, when you have been unfairly dismissed you will be stressed and anxious. After all, your reputation will have been destroyed and you will be worrying about what you will do to earn money.

This is definitely the time to seek help from a credible unfair dismissal lawyer, helping you to take back control.

It can also help to chart to a therapist as they will help you to put your work into perspective and not to be stressed about the things that you can’t control or are too small to be worth worrying about.

Re-prioritize

A key way to prevent you from overthinking is to list everything you have to do and then prioritize it. Start by organizing them in order of deadlines. You then know which order you have to do the work in.

If it stills seems like too much to get through then it is time to think about delegating, if that is possible. If that isn’t an option then you need to speak to your boss regarding your workload.

Obviously having to tackle your boss can make you more stressed. But, doing it will reduce your stress levels in the future.

Planning

If the above doesn’t help you to reach the deadline then speak to your boss as soon as it becomes obvious this will be the case. They may be able to allocate additional help or they may change the deadline, giving you the time you need.

But, if you are talking to your boss, do your homework first. Knowing the issue and the potential solutions means you will be less anxious about having the meeting and give them less opportunity to say no.

Unfriendly Colleagues

If you are convinced a colleague doesn’t like you then you are likely to be anxious at work, especially when you need to deal with them.

If this is the case then think about their actions, it may not be personal, simply the way they are.

But, even if it is personal it doesn’t matter. You probably don’t like everyone you meet and that is fine. Just remain professional with them and focus on the things that you can change.

Making Mistakes

Everyone is worried about making a mistake but the simple truth is we all do it. The key is to own up to a mistake and learn from it. This will allow your boss and colleagues to value you even more highly and will eliminate the stress of worrying about failure.
