Sydney Korean Festival

  • Written by Jennifer Doherty

Join the Festival Fun at the Sydney Korean Festival 2017 - Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 April, 2017

Join the festival fun this coming weekend at the Sydney Korean Festival 2017 on Saturday, 1st April (11am-9pm) and Sunday 2nd April (11am-5pm) at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour and indulge your senses in Korean food, dance and music performances, handicraft activities and  the 2017 Korea Drama & Film Awards for the first time.

Korea Tourism Organization will have a stall at the event to promote Korea tourism (free brochures and information available) and provide information about the upcoming 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics to be held in Korea next February.  Take a chance to experience the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games with a virtual reality experience at the Korea Tourism stand.

The Sydney Korean Festival is about celebrating and sharing all the wonderful aspects of Korean culture.  The festival will be bigger and better than ever this year with the festival set to run over two days.  There will be many more mouth-watering food stalls this year and for the first time in six years the 2017 Korea Drama & Film Awards will become part of the event.

A highlight of this year's event is the 'Chajeon Nori ' (Juggernaut Battle Game) performance at 11.30am and 3.30pm on Saturday, 1st April.  'Chajeon Nori' is a traditional game in which two teams holding their A-shaped wooden frames with the team's leader standing on the frame battling to discourage the opposing team by raising the wooden structure higher and higher. The team that makes the opponent's wooden structure fall to the ground wins the battle.  About 150 people in total participate in the battle and the roar of the teams will be heard all over Darling Harbour.

This year's festival will have a Hite Beer Garden as well as many options for trying Korean food.  Some of the food stalls joining are Kobow, Kartel, Light Bulb Soda, Mandoo House, Papa's Street Tacos, Passion Tree, Red Bean Pancake, Crazy Gyoza as well as juice and gelato bars.

When visiting Australia, consider heading to Melbourne. There is a lot to see and the food and dining opportunities are World class. We Chauffeur Melbourne

Get down to Darling Harbour this weekend to join in the festival fun and have a chance to win over 400 great prizes including return air tickets to Korea and the chance to win free tickets to Korean pianist Yiruma's concert at the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday, 16 May, 2017.
