5 Temperature-Sensitive Products That Need Cold Chain Packaging

  • Written by NewsCo

Fresh food is kept fresh by being stored and transported in chilled containers. This ensures they maintain their freshness and taste fantastic. However, while hundreds of different products are chilled every day, some products are particularly sensitive to temperature changes. These are the items that can be ruined just by the temperature changing a few degrees.

This is why most trucks and container storage facilities use a temperature data logger, they monitor the temperature constantly and alert you if it moves outside a given range. This gives you time to rectify the issue and save the produce.

The following five products are perhaps the most sensitive to temperature changes and need to be packed appropriately and constantly monitored.

  1. Medical products

A huge number of medical products are transported daily. This includes vaccines, blood, organs, and even medical devices. The temperature they need to be kept at will be defined by the manufacturer but there is usually very little tolerance for temperature changes.

  1. Wine

You may be surprised to discover that wine does not like heat. Wine that is exposed to heat will age faster and become flat, it makes a distinct difference to the taste and not in a positive way.

If you are shipping wine small distances is better but, if it has to go a long distance, you need to keep the temperature low.

  1. Ice Cream

It is not surprising that a frozen product needs to be kept at a specific temperature. Don’t forget that once ice cream gets warm enough to melt it can be contaminated by bacteria. These prevent it from re-freezing properly and can cause illness if ingested.

It is essential to keep the ice cream frozen.

  1. Meat

Fresh meat needs to be kept refrigerated or frozen. It is very attractive to a huge array of bacteria, many of which can cause serious illness. For this reason, meat should be kept at a temperature below 40°F. IF it exceeds this temperature for two hours or more then the meat should be destroyed as it 0will not be safe for consumption. Electronics

Electronics are often very sensitive to heat. This is why most electronic products, such as computers and phones, have tiny fans in them to help keep them cool. If the electronics get too hot the chipboards will be fried, rendering the product useless.

It may not seem as big an issue as some of the other items on this list. But, if you don’t monitor the temperature it is easy for it to be overlooked, giving the manufacturer and the supplier a headache.

Final Thoughts

Getting the packing right will help to protect your goods from harm, both in terms of the temperature and damage from accidental dropping. That is why it is so important to choose the most suitable packing material for your products and make sure that the temperature is maintained at all times. It is the easiest way to keep you and your customers happy.
