Australia limits alcohol use during coronavirus pandemic

  • Written by News Company

Covid-19, which has appeared in 2020 and disrupted the usual way of life, affected almost everything in the world. Economies suffered greatly. One of the most acclaimed and famous events have been either canceled or postponed.

The main problem concerning the virus is the fact that it is spreading quickly. Countries that had a relatively low number in infected people have now surpassed China.

Australia in particulars has been affected recently by the coronavirus. There are over 3,000 infected and 14 deaths. The country has locked all of its borders and recently limited the use of alcohol during the pandemic.

What does the restriction mean?

The government of Western Australia has announced the restriction of alcohol consumption as part of the “smart measures” campaign during the coronavirus pandemic.

A restrictive regime on the sale of alcohol was introduced on Wednesday morning. State Governor Mark McGowan stated this. According to him, the introduction of new measures is aimed at minimizing alcohol-related problems in the state, 9 News reports.

The governor said that the restrictions would be valid for at least two weeks and could be reviewed, changed or expanded at any time.

What can Australians do during the pandemic rather than drinking?

While a lot of people in Australia are fond of drinking, there is still a lot to do besides consuming alcohol, while staying indoors. Watching movies, reading books or playing video games is only a partial list of activities people can do while practicing social distancing.

It would be no surprise to mention online gambling which has seen a lot of visitors recently. The industry is very popular in Australia as well. Citizens can play online casino games to earn extra money and enjoy themselves. In particular, french roulette is very popular among Australians, and they can easily play french roulette online while in quarantine. It is statistics and history that show us the popularity of this game in Australia, which traces its origins for more than 300 years and a lot of Australian people are fond of this game.

Why did the government decide to take this measure?

When the coronavirus outbreak began, some people and experts voiced the idea that alcohol is a unique way to fight Covid-19, because it kills the virus. It led some people to consume a high amount of alcohol, including liquor, beer, wine. So not only it affects the health of people, but the supply becomes exhausted as well.

Under the restrictions, residents of the state will now be allowed to make the following purchases: one package of beer, or three bottles of wine, or a litre of spirits; or one litre of the fortified wine. It will be forbidden to buy two or more different alcoholic beverages.

As state police commissioner Chris Dawson noted in turn, similar measures were introduced after authorities received numerous reports of people filling up shopping carts with unlimited quantities of alcohol. Dawson also said that the decision applied primarily to those who buy a lot more alcohol than they can reasonably consume.

It is still a long way for the virus to disappear completely. The United States has already reached 100,000. The cases in Australia are soaring as well, and every person in the world needs to obey the rules to eradicate the virus effectively.
