How To Choose The Right Size Entertainment Unit For Your Home

  • Written by Modern Australian

Television, once a luxury item, has now become a common necessity in most households. Advancements in technology allow us to enjoy sleeker and smarter TVs that offer a wide range of entertainment options beyond just news and sports channels. People of all ages, from young kids to elders, can relax on your sofa while flicking through channels to watch their favourite shows.

To enhance the viewing experience, it's important to have a suitable entertainment unit in your living room. A well-designed TV unit not only elevates the aesthetics of your living space but also ensures that your TV is placed at the right height, distance, and safety to comfortably enjoy your favourite content. With the convenience of online or offline shopping, you can easily explore various options for TV cabinets and stands, but it can be overwhelming due to the wide variety of choices available. Well, let’s not put such awful imagery in your head, read this blog to learn crucial tips that you should keep in mind while purchasing an entertainment unit.

Determine the Size of your TV

Undoubtedly, the most important part of choosing an entertainment unit for your home is the size of your TV. It will determine how big your TV unit will be, so make sure the TV is fitted properly. Buying a too-small or large unit in relation to your TV can result in instability, risking damage to your TV, or not being placed properly. The right size will ensure your TV is housed securely while making an aesthetic statement in your living room.

Measure Your Space

Take measurements of the space where you plan to place it. This step is crucial as it helps you determine the maximum size of the TV unit that will fit comfortably in your living room. Measuring the space also ensures that the TV unit neither overwhelms nor looks insignificant in your area. Use a measuring tape to measure the length, breadth, and height of the area, from left to right. Write it down, and remember it when it comes time to shop for a unit!

The Right Distance Between Unit and Sofa

When setting up your TV unit in your living room, it's essential to consider the distance between your sofa and the unit to ensure an optimal viewing experience. A general rule of thumb is to multiply the screen size by 1.2 to determine the ideal viewing distance. For example, if you have a 40-inch TV screen, you should aim to sit approximately 48 inches away, or about 1.3 metres away, from the TV. This recommended distance allows for a comfortable viewing experience, without straining your eyes or neck, and ensures that you can fully enjoy your favourite shows or movies without feeling too close or too far from the screen.

Storage Requirement

There is no doubt that the right size of cabinet is important. But, while purchasing, you should consider a stand that provides storage or has some extra space for keeping entertainment products, such as speakers, sound systems, gaming consoles, DVD players, etc., on it. Additionally, go with a unit that is also used as a display unit for decorative items, family pictures, books, or travel trinkets.

Before finalising the size or type of TV cabinet, take into account what you want to keep in it. Accordingly, you can select the number of shelves, compartments, and cabinets needed to store all your items effectively.

Design of Your Living Room

When choosing a TV stand, it's important to consider the style of your decor and other furniture pieces in your living room to ensure that it complements the overall aesthetics of the space. If you have a spacious living room with large furniture pieces, opting for a large TV unit may create a sense of luxury. On the other hand, if your decor is modern and minimalist, a sleek and contemporary design would be more suitable.

Final Thoughts

Selecting the perfect size for your TV entertainment unit involves considering various factors, including your decor, TV size, space measurements, and storage requirements. To make the right choice, you can follow our simple guide that helps you create a cohesive and visually pleasing look.
