Who Has the Cheapest Rent in Australia?

  • Written by NewsServices.com

Where do we find the cheapest rent in Australia right now?

It’s no news that property prices have been going up across the country, increasing borrowing capacity and leaving wages in the wind. So as renters looking to pinch pennies, where should we direct our attention when we move?

According to Corelogic, it’s not to Canberra, where rent is highest in the country. But instead, perhaps to Adelaide, which shows some of the cheapest rent in Australia across the capital cities.

With the pandemic came a drop in demand for rentals from students and people moving to Australia. Corelogic estimates that about 56% of Australian units are in Sydney and Melbourne—major cosmopolitan hubs that attract young adults coming from abroad. With more available rental housing, and in units in particular, the rent prices were outperformed by sales.

Let’s dive into the capital cities and see which suburbs have the cheapest rent in 2-bedroom houses and units.
